However, Western psychological approaches have dominated counselling services in Tanzania making students and counsellors as mere consumers. This might hinder the educational and growth needs of a Tanzanian child. Therefore, this paper reports a review of literature in Tanzania to investigate provision of guidance and counselling services in schools in the light of Afrocentric approach which takes in the Tanzanian cultural context. The paper highlights the historical development of guidance and counselling services in Tanzanian schools, then examines the setbacks of employing Western approaches on providing guidance and counselling services, and finally, advocates the need for Afrocentric approaches as an important aspect in practicing school guidance and counselling in Tanzanian context.
Mustapha Almasi Saldin H. This study aims to formulate and analyze the counselor’s code of ethics in detail from the perspective of Islamic Education. A qualitative approach using library research was employed, with primary data from the Qur’an and Sunnah, and secondary data from interpretations, hadith, fiqh, and scientific journals. The results show that the counselor’s code of ethics in Islam enriches professional standards with theological values such as human fitrah, amanah (trustworthiness), adl (justice), ihsan (goodness/excellence), maslahah (public interest), and tawakal (reliance on God) alongside ikhtiar (effort). Muslim counselors are also expected to emulate prophetic traits like shiddiq (truthfulness), amanah (trustworthiness), fathonah (intelligence), and tabligh (conveying truth/social concern), serving as spiritual role models. The application of these principles includes maintaining confidentiality as a trust, respecting individual dignity without discrimination, and being morally and professionally responsible. The integration of these Islamic values has been proven to enhance the quality of counseling services and strengthen professionalism, helping clients find meaning in life and spiritual strength. This research provides deep insights into the counselor’s code of ethics and guidance for education practitioners to improve their practices in accordance with more concrete ethical principles.
Budi Johan Fitria Nate Nur Aulia Dwi Dewanti Tsalsa Amani Fatihah Yudhia Az-Zahra Syahman Zaizul Bin Ab Rahman Copyright (c) 2025 Budi Johan, Fitria Nate, Tsalsa Amani Fatihah, Yudhia Az-Zahra Syahman, Nur Aulia Dwi Dewanti, Zaizul Bin Ab Rahman https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-10-06 2025-10-06 8 2 145 155 10.38073/almusyrif.v8i2.3124 The Effectiveness of WDEP Reality Counseling in Reducing Social Comparison Among Students https://ejournal.uiidalwa.ac.id/index.php/almusyrif/article/view/3401
The excessive use of social media among adolescents has triggered the phenomenon of social comparison, which has a negative impact on mental health and academic performance. Existing interventions have not specifically addressed this issue, even though reality counseling has been proven effective for other psychological problems. This study aims to prove the effectiveness of WDEP reality counseling in reducing social comparison among students who use social media at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Bondowoso. The method used is a Quasi-Experiment with a Pre-test Post-test Control Group Design, involving 10 students with moderate and high levels of social comparison. Five students were placed in the experimental group and five others in the control group. Data collection used the adapted INCOM scale, with validity (0.361-0.837) and reliability (0.895). In the basic assumption test, the pre-test and post-test results showed that all data were normally distributed and homogeneous, with a sig. value <0.05, allowing the use of the T-test to analyze score differences. The T-test results showed a significant decrease in social comparison scores in the experimental group from 92.00 to 67.40, compared to the control group, which only decreased from 89.20 to 87.60. These findings prove that WDEP reality counseling is effective and practical in helping students understand and manage their social behavior. This intervention is recommended for counselors and educational institutions as an intervention strategy to address students' psychological well-being issues.
Nuria Nurul Jannah Weni Kurnia Rahmawati Nailul Fauziyah Henny Christine Mamahit Copyright (c) 2025 Nuria Nurul Jannah, Weni Kurnia Rahmawati, Nailul Fauziyah, Henny Christine Mamahit https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-10-06 2025-10-06 8 2 156 169 10.38073/almusyrif.v8i2.3401 Exploration of Self-Concept and Academic Achievement of Students After the Experience of Broken Home Families https://ejournal.uiidalwa.ac.id/index.php/almusyrif/article/view/3192
The rising divorce rate in Indonesia poses a significant challenge for students from broken homes, often negatively impacting their self-concept and academic achievement. Although some literature generalizes this impact as always negative, preliminary observations show that some individuals are able to excel despite these challenges. This study aims to explore in depth how students from broken homes perceive themselves and how this affects their academic achievement. This qualitative study uses a case study appzdroach with purposive sampling techniques to select three main informants, and data is collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and non-participatory observation. The results show significant variations in the formation of self-concept; individuals with a positive self-concept see bitter experiences as motivation to achieve, while those with a negative self-concept tend to lose motivation. Thus, how individuals interpret their experiences is a key factor that determines resilience and academic success. This study contributes to a more nuanced understanding of psychological resilience in dealing with family trauma.
Elga Diana Putri Rahma Wira Nita Triyono Triyono Mohammad Shafiq Bin Asan Copyright (c) 2025 Elga Diana Putri, Rahma Wira Nita, Triyono Triyono, Mohammad Shafiq Bin Asan https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-10-06 2025-10-06 8 2 170 180 10.38073/almusyrif.v8i2.3192 The Relationship Between Self-Control and Academic Procrastination Among Students https://ejournal.uiidalwa.ac.id/index.php/almusyrif/article/view/3258
Procrastination is a problem that everyone experiences and can have negative consequences if it continues. One factor that is thought to play a role in procrastination is self-control. Individuals with low self-control tend to procrastinate, while individuals with high self-control are better able to manage their time and fulfill their responsibilities. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between self-control and academic procrastination among college students. This study uses a quantitative method with a correlational research design. This study examined guidance and counseling students at Sriwijaya University and involved 367 students from four batches, namely the 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 batches. In this study, proportional stratified random sampling was used to select the sample, resulting in 191 students as respondents. The analysis showed that the level of academic procrastination was 67% in 128 students, and the level of self-control was 74.3% in 142 students, both of which were in the moderate category. In the hypothesis test, the correlation results showed that the variables of academic procrastination and self-control had a significant and negative correlation, with a correlation coefficient of -0.760 and a significance value of 0.000, which indicates < 0.05. This means that individuals with high self-control tend to have lower levels of academic procrastination, while individuals with low self-control tend to have higher levels of academic procrastination. These findings identify the importance of increasing self-awareness and self-regulation skills as efforts to reduce procrastination in the academic field.
Rokiyah Rokiyah Ratna Sari Dewi Velya Valyediniti Copyright (c) 2025 Rokiyah Rokiyah, Ratna Sari Dewi, Velya Valyediniti https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-10-06 2025-10-06 8 2 181 191 10.38073/almusyrif.v8i2.3258 Abdussamad al-Palimbani’s Zikr Doctrine as a Spiritual Approach to Overcoming Abusive Language https://ejournal.uiidalwa.ac.id/index.php/almusyrif/article/view/3201
In an increasingly complex social life, there is often an increase in the use of abusive language, which can be detrimental to individuals and society. This study aims to explore the psychological conditions of parents with glue-addicted children, focusing on emotional strain and parental guilt. Employing a qualitative narrative approach, the research involved four parents from Kerinci Regency, Jambi, whose children exhibited glue addiction behaviors. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that parents experience considerable psychological distress, with emotional strain manifesting as stress, sleep disturbances, anxiety, and feelings of hopelessness. Parental guilt is reflected in self-blame, perceived failure in parenting, and prolonged internal conflict. These psychological challenges negatively influence parents’ daily functioning and their relationships with their children. The study underscores the need for psychological support, particularly family counseling that incorporates supportive and narrative approaches, to assist in emotional regulation, enhance parent–child communication, and restore parental self-efficacy. Overall, the findings provide a basis for developing guidance and counseling programs that integrate family-centered interventions in addressing adolescent addiction cases.
Regi Malsya Eko Sujadi Syaiful Indra Iqmal Wahyudi Copyright (c) 2025 Regi Malsya, Eko Sujadi, Syaiful Indra, Iqmal Wahyudi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-10-15 2025-10-15 8 2 208 223 10.38073/almusyrif.v8i2.2763 Tolerant Religious Guidance Practices at the Maiyah Mocopat Syafa’at Recitation in Yogyakarta https://ejournal.uiidalwa.ac.id/index.php/almusyrif/article/view/3438
The issue of religious intolerance in Indonesia remains high and threatens social cohesion. As research results reveal, inspired by the thought of the Italian pedagogist, for just over a decade a few pioneering Iranian educational psychologists have been assisting Muslim teachers in shifting their focus toward children’s intrinsic motivation and respect for individual learning needs. Despite longstanding reluctance from the theocratic government, the syncretic approaches they have been promoting may prove effective in caring for the child’s fiṭra. In the article, Islamic psychology and Montessori’s perspective are juxtaposed, and tensions between educational needs and state concerns regarding the socio-political implications of such adoption are critically explored. The author concludes by reflecting on how adopting ideas from a different cultural milieu and adapting them to local educational contexts, far from implying submission to external intellectual hegemony, may unexpectedly yield positive learning outcomes.
Paola Colonello Copyright (c) 2025 Paola Colonello https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-10-26 2025-10-26 8 2 253 276 10.38073/almusyrif.v8i2.3474
